Website was hacked and down for a few. Back up now!
Happy Spring 2012!
Busy Busy… More news coming soon!
Fall has been good to me! I’ve recently relocated to New York, New York. Its beautiful out here and the leaves are a fallin!
As far as work goes, I’m grinding away at a few web and photo projects. Been keeping busy running around, meeting new people, chatting it up with agencies, sitting in on meetings, and not spending enough time by the sea.
I’m less than 15 miles from the ocean, yet it takes perhaps an hour of a train commute to get out to the wonderful Rockaways.
Looking forward to the winter season and flying back and forth between here and California for some work and play.
Two weeks into this staycation I decided to purchase a 70′s Japanese Epiphone acoustic off Ebay. Was feeling pretty antsy to make some noise. It was tough being surrounded by all these wonderful things in the city and not having an instrument to come home to bang away at.
So here I am… Well situated and ready to charge a new season.
Also, I’ve decided to tone it down with these monthly posts and instead revisit this page quarterly when the seasons change. Its become a chore to myself rather than a fun update every thirty some odd days.
On that word… Be well my friends!
Cheerio!
The last few weeks have been a whirlwind. Back in California now from running around Spain, France, and Italy tackling some freelance work.
Trying to adjust back to this west coast time zone. A day upon returning, I hopped back on a plane up to Seattle for a weekend of documenting.
Fast forward a few days, I’ll be out East working on an apparel project in Pittsburgh and documenting the tenth anniversary of 9-11 in NYC for a Parisian Company called Photographie.com
Fall is on the way – Can’t wait for the seasons to turn!
In route to Italy. Currently posted up in Paris for a few days.
Let’s Catch up next month… Be well!
Time has been flying by so quickly. Really fortunate to spend my time working with my friends and doing things I enjoy.
A few days a week I post up in an office at a marketing agency in the arts district of Santa Ana working with the team over at ARWE and Truth Agency. Through this network, I was introduced to the downtown bar and restaurant committee and commissioned to develop media pieces for an upcoming campaign. I’ll be posting up some media in the days to come.
Earlier this month I cranked out a media project with my friends over at AHSI salon. We were set up in a high rise loft overlooking the city and spent 3 hours in production… Not too shabby, but post production and editing was another story in and of itself! I’ll have the final products up on the moments page in a few.
Also in the happenings for this month, I was approached by some contacts to develop modeling and imagery portfolios to pitch to Neiman Marcus and Ralph Lauren. The Neiman gig went through and we’re still waiting to hear back on the Ralph Lauren gig. Super jazzed on the variety of work that comes in! So sweet!
Other than that, I’ve been working on a few projects and taking on some new clients with ARWE. Lots of meetings, conversations, and strategic planning – We’re in limbo and waiting to hear back to see where things go. Theres always quite a bit of anticipation and wait time on bigger projects due to budgets and planning. Fun, fun, fun!
Summer has been very kind to me. Aside from work, I’ve managed to squeeze in some time under the sun and in the water. Surf hasn’t been amazing by any means, but very playful. I’m back off to Europe in a few days for some work and play for the rest of the season.
Pretty pumped!
Be well…
Back from another whirlwind of awesomeness. Trying to deflate and get back into my groove. The last few weeks I’ve been hoping around like crazy… NYC, SD, SF. Marketing meetings, projects, and freelance work are keeping me on my tippy toes.
Earlier this month I left The Basque Country of Spain on an extremely high note with some great contacts and some amazing friends. Looks like I’ll be heading back out in July to post up for a little bit and work on a few projects.
During the weeks to come, I will be curating (overused lame buzz word) and working on the media for a creative exhibition in Newport Beach. The theme will be focused on hand made items as well as digital and film format photography.
On a side note, I have interviewed some friends from Bilbao, Paris, and New York. Be on the lookout for a video documentary series to hit the moments page during the next few weeks. If I’m lucky, I’ll be able to keep the thing going on a quarterly basis.
Well, that’s it for now. Gotta head into the office! Stoked summer has finally arrived!
Currently navigating through Europe connecting and working on marketing projects. Got a few more days left in Spain, then onto Italy, and back to Paris for a flight out to New York for meetings and a media project.
Side Note – I used to live in Buenos Aires where I spoke quite a bit of Spanish. I really haven’t had the opportunity to use it consistently until this trip. Its a little rusty, but I guess my Basque friends think I have it down pretty good. Either way, I love the Spanish language!
And BTW – The Basque country (Northern Spain) is amazing. Love this place. Great people, good food, and beautiful surroundings!
Busy, busy, busy…
Summer is almost here!
I’ll be writing more in a little bit.
Spring is off to a great start. I’ve been spending time between web marketing, photos, and video media. Got a few exciting things in the works and a possible marketing pitch to a huge international company.
For now, that’s it. Not much, but I’ll be updating this section in a few with more thoughts and notes from March. So stay tuned.
Oh the joys of being a freelancer…! Busy, busy…
Wow, what a month! I have never spent so much time hanging out in airports.
Here I am on my way back home from a 30 day stint in South East Asia. Time was split between Vietnam, Thailand, and Taiwan.
Initially, I had not planned to spend too much time in Taiwan. However, a few old buddies teaching english in the country convinced me to cruise over and check it out for myself. So I figured I’d have a look and post up for a few days. Those few days turned into an extra 10, and a major extension of my trip. I was sold after only a few hours of wandering around with my old university buddies.
If I were to describe the island of Taiwan, I would take the mountainous coastal elements of Northern California and couple them with the charm and sophistication of Japan. But not as spendy… That being said… yeah, Taiwan is insane…!
Both Vietnam and Thailand were great as well. I’ve posted some content from both those countries on the moments page. Perhaps I’ll write more when I’m not so exhausted.
Stoked to circle back around again and arrive in a new season of life.
Be well!
First 31 days of the year finished. Bam! What a month. Can’t believe all the warm weather and swell we’ve had. Mid January in Newport was all time! I haven’t surfed this much since living on the beach in college. So rad, I feel like a kid again.
On the work end, I got to shoot some water videography for a production company. This was a fun project documenting one of the Wahoos Fish Tacos founders surfing. I’ll be posting the finished video up on the moments section shortly.
Mobile Pay USA is cranking on the market, its been getting quite a bit of a buzz in the tech world. I’m excited to put the finishing touches on the campaign the next few days.
I got word back from the crew over at the Krochet Kids on a few old photos they used for their Peru initiatives. Really stoked on how they are laid out with graphics. If you get the chance, head on over to their site and check out what they are doing to change the world one hat at a time!
Come Thursday, I’ll be on a plane headed to the Great South East. Thailand, Vietnam, and hopefully Taiwan are on the list of must sees. Precise plans really have not been made. All I know is that I will be landing at 1:30 a.m. in Bangkok. The rest is up to me to figure out one step at a time!
Holly snap! The last day of 2010 is here. Its been a great year, can’t believe its gone by so fast.
Early December was frantic. Not sure if anyone reads these entries or really cares, but as I mentioned before I headed out East to meet up with some cats in New York and onward to the Dominican to work with Hope International.
The Big Apple was amazing as always, but the Dominican was even better! Although it was a little short, my Caribbean sojourn was busy and packed full of work. Knowing how to speak spanish helped a ton and made the gig ten times better. I felt right at home documenting these unique environments with the clients of Hope International.
I’m excited for this next year and continuing to pursue opportunities such as this.
Winter has really kicked into full gear here with tons of rain, but the sun has managed to pop up a few times making for some gorgeous days. The ocean has been a little swirly with river runoff, but I’ve managed to sneak a few surfs in here and there. As of late, Vitamin C pills have been my new best friends.
I got an email from one of my tech clients over at Mobile Pay USA informing me about a spot in the recent Laptop Magazine. I zoomed over to Barnes and Nobles to the Magazine sections and came across the campaign shot. Stoked!
Onward ho! This next year is just a few hours away. Excited for the next chapter!
Off to celebrate a new beginning. Stay cool!
I’ll be hoping on a plane in a few hours to New York. Should be fun catching up with old friends, cruising the public transportation system, and dining out in the Big A. My friend Tiff has a jewelry line that’s been garnering quite a buzz in the press, so I’ll be logging in a little bit of time for a shoot with her team. Pretty amped.
Fast forward a few days and I’ll be in the Dominican on a multi-media project for Hope International – an organization in which caters to developing Micro-Finance opportunities in third world countries. I’m beyond excited to document and spend time exploring the Dominican culture.
Projects this last month were super fun! My friends over at Tea in the Woods and I connected for a web and print campaign. We shot on a property with a few acres in the backyard full of trees, skate ramps, and even a half pipe nestled 30 feet up in a tree. Epic!
Earlier on in the month, I shot a web and print campaign for a new tech company located here in the heart of Southern California. We set up at local shops and shot for a few hours. The group was all jazzed on the final selects so I was stoked!
I also linked up with the team over at Dedo Frame to shoot a little bit of product and lifestyle for their marketing department. I really dig what they do. Using all reclaimed and exotic woods, they make these chic one of a kind picture frames. They’re so rad and are the perfect little Christmas present!
Holiday Season is here! Looking forward to wandering Balboa Island for the Newport Beach boat parade and the assortment of Christmas and New Years celebrations.
Its Halloween day and I’m translating this month’s notes and personal memoirs to the computer. The campfire scent from the last few days spent up in Big Sur is still lingering, but I’m charged and inspired to get back up on the saddle and crank.
On a musical note, I went into my buddy’s studio a week ago to hang out. I picked up a guitar and ended up showing him bits and pieces to a few tunes I have been messing with. He’s a drummer, engineer, and very talented producer. We ended up jamming out for a few hours and it was epic! He suggested that I wrap up a few ideas and come back and record with him when I finish. That being said, if I ever get my act together, you may be seeing some tracks up on the moments section!
As far as work goes, agency marketing and photography gigs are coming in steadily. Its a tough time economically to be shelling out for advertising, so I feel really fortunate and blessed to be connected with such great peers in the little marketing world that I live in. I’m currently working on a few multimedia and lifestyle projects. The deadlines are just around the corner, and I’m hammering away like a madman.
I’ll be out in Vegas in a few days to help launch a new software brand. My buddy built the booth for the trade show from scratch so it’ll be a treat to see the unveiling of it. Above all else, I’m excited to see all these little ideas we’ve brainstormed come to fruition!
A short voyage out to the Dominican Republic is in the works for December and dates for the great South East are being worked out.
Should be an exciting 4 weeks a head. We’ll see where this road goes!
One day at a time.
Fall. Such an insane time to be coastal.
The weather has been piping hot this last week and the waves have been coming through in abundance. Our indian summer is in full affect and I can’t be any more excited. Nothing compares to logging in hours with the ocean and good friends after long days at the office.
When the waves went flat, the underwater visibility was phenomenal for free diving. On one of these occasions, a crew and I paddled longboards around local coves to dive and explore some caves. It was pretty rad!
Lobster season starts soon. I’m pumped to get back in the water at night with a flash light, fins, snorkel, and gloves to catch them bugs.
On the work end, my schedule has been slightly busy with a few shoots lined up and media pitches to local and international companies. One of which was a car shoot for a well established car accessories company. The thing took my team 3 hours to light, but we ended up nailing a good shot. I don’t often shoot automotive campaigns let alone hot rods worth over half a million dollars, so it was definitely a project.
New prospects are on the horizon, a trip to the Great South East is in the works, and a Big Sur excursion is on tap for this month. I’ve thrown my compass overboard, set my sails for the trade winds, and I’m gearing up for another great season!
Summer is on its way out. Kind of a bummer, but this fall will be insane!
I’m currently in between moving into a new workspace in Costa Mesa called “Labracadabra.” Its a pretty exciting time and I’m thrilled to be a part of such a diverse team of artists.
I had the opportunity to work with Surfline on a few projects. Surfer Magazine picked up a shot from one of those assignments for their next issue. Should be hot on the stands in a few weeks.
As of late, I’ve been clicking away for a few local marketing companies. One gig landed me on a boat in the pacific ocean shooting photos of a guy in a little wooden dingy. That same job placed me roof top on a high rise building in downtown Long Beach.
Got some adventures and travels on the pipeline in the near future. Stay tuned.
T-minus a few days till Mexico for a relaxing long weekend with some waves, down time, and a lifestyle shoot. Be well!
I’ve been on a kick documenting friends in their work spaces and creative environments. Riviera Magazine, The Los Angeles Times, and a few websites will be running some shots in the weeks to come. Be on the look out!
In other news, I spent an evening at my friend Corey Gash’s studio shooting Matt Costa rehearsing tunes from his latest album coming out in the fall. I have an affinity for music and fiddling around with instruments, so it was a blast to be there in the midst of it all.
Come on back and scope out the moments section for some goodies when you get the chance. If you haven’t noticed, I update that thing everyday.
One more month til the crowds on the beach diminish and things begin to come back to normal again. Pretty stoked!
So here we are! “Summer Oh-Ten” has kicked off into full swing. Much like prior years we’re right on track with yet another severe case of June gloom in Southern California. I’m looking forward to seeing what the sun has in store for the next 62 days.
The first half of this month was spent on the North Island of New Zealand with a few friends crammed into an RV. It was a little much at times, but we managed to score some waves, do a bit of hiking, rummage thrift stores, and drift countless hours through New Zealand’s pristine countryside. It was an amazing trip and a breath of fresh air to get out and wander foreign terrain.
Arriving back home from my sojourning I logged in some nautical hours sailing and fishing. A crew and I decided to throw out a few lines one night off the coast of Laguna. We ended up catching and releasing two Makos within a 30 minute window. It was quite the experience to be that close to pure carnage.
I’ll be updating these notes monthly, feel free to have a look around the site and hang out for a bit.
Nipon! What an insane place! I spent two weeks in the land of the rising sun with my friends over at Generic Youth clothing. I was commissioned by FCDM, Japan to go out and document the events leading up to the launch of a new flagship store in Kamakura. In between days of setting up the shop, we managed to squeeze in time to slide some waves, wander Tokyo, and enjoy the food and culture.
The market for fashion apparel is HUGE out there. It was a treat to check out the aesthetics and merchandising of all the retail hot spots that our friends in Japan love so much. The Comme des Garçons store in Tokyo was hands down the most creative layout for a shop I have ever seen. Really dug the architecture and all the meticulous design elements that went into creating such an inspiring atmosphere.
Words can’t describe how great that country is. For more on Japan, check out the moments and frequency sections.
